The interaction of light and matter impacts perception and visual stimulation. While on a conscious level the influence of light is not often taken into account at the time of creation of a traditional painting, the relationship between light and the paint on canvas plays a role in guiding every colour choice and stroke an artist makes.

With Lux, artist Sajid Wajid Shaikh explores the language of light, and how illuminance communicates with matter. By filtering rays through various materials that refract, bend, shape, magnify, and repel light rays or the source of creation, Shaikh creates ever-changing illusions for the viewer to experience. The light speaks and matter translates, creating art of another dimension. Is the creation where and how the light falls on its final destination – or is in the journey of creation?

Sajid Wajid Shaikh  is a self-taught visual artist specializing in illustration and design.

He uses a visual language of shape, form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world

Its a form of self expression, meta and cathartic.

His work indicates a departure from reality in depiction of imagery in art. This departure from accurate representation can be slight, partial, or complete.

Abstraction exists along a continuum. Colour is conspicuously and deliberately altered vis-a-vis reality.

Sajid returned to portraying recognizable objects, such as the human body, (although sometimes in an abstract manner), in a rough and violently emotional way, often using vivid colors.

Sajid is originally from New Bombay. His creative adventure began at age 7 when his mom gave him a box full of paint. Ever since, it has been one canvas, silkscreen, notebook page, paper, and poster print after another.
