REProduce Vegetable Vendor Best Friend Devotional Soundcloud and Somewhat YouTube DJ

by Rana Ghose 23rd Apr, 2020

So, like many of you (I think), I regularly trawl Soundcloud to find new music from this country while doing whatever else I might be doing at the time.  Sometimes I’m just listening and doing nothing else.  It depends. I don’t really stray too far from my laptop these days anyway.  I remain in perpetual wonder about who these people are.  Here’s a few tracks that would have forced me to cease a) washing a pot, b) cutting beans, c) writing an email, d) watering my plants e) testing some audio settings on some laptop far away from me, f) none of the above, in order to write in an apparently sincere manner without much consideration.

udbhav – awkward

I can’t remember quite how I came across this.  I think it may have been his former moniker, “Shaastriji”.  Maybe that was it.  The moniker.  He played at a thing we did in Chattarpur once.  I think that was the first time he played.  Was that also when DJ Urine and Seedhe Maut played?  I don’t really know anything about stuff.  I do feel like this whole 3D crew is going to do…stuff.  A lot of it.  But yeah this is probably my favourite track.  Maybe it’s cos this was the initial stuff I heard.  I’m so predictable.  There was actually another track that was the one I wanted to post but I think he took it down, it was called “magic watch face”.  There was also a track called “eyelids” which was fantastic.  Well, we can’t factor in second thoughts and redacted statements I suppose.  Ask him to send it to you, I bet he won’t.  He might.  Oh wait he said his hard drive crashed though, maybe thats why.  Well it’s a good thing I hoard everything.  Because I don’t, don’t ask me.

Aparthiva Raktadhara – Dismal Anahata Transmissions

I actually asked if they wanted to play the showcase we had at Magnetic Fields.  In the end I think there was some travel issue for them.  I don’t know.  This song is amazing.  I think the video uses footage from various charak and sitala pujas in north Bengal.  Among other things.  Death and legacy dick and blood worship.  Ramakrishna!  Vivekananda!  CULT OF PERSONALITY WHITE WASH THE CULT long story.  I wonder if Gene Simmons was also into Kali.  He probably tried to patent her deal.  Maybe in a way the did.  Anyway fuck that guy.  Also I think the same drummer plays for all the Kolkata Inner Order bands. It sounds like the same snare abuse.  I think hitting the snare on every note is the best thing to do always in every situation, all the time, in general, that logic should be extended to everything we do and see around us.

holidaywife – sorry (demo)

Uday turned me on to this the other day.  You know that stupid Terry Flaps song, that was my first reaction.  I don’t know why, I guess the bassline.  That didn’t last.  There’s some distance away from here going on in a few contexts.  Like the voice.  Also this is the right speed, it’s good for walking and looking at the sun through trees.  Did you know that’s what Komorebi means in Japanese, I learned that recently.  Great word, I’m a big fan of looking at the sun through trees.  The track description says “𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘷𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘢 𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦’𝘴 𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘯 𝘯𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘯𝘶𝘵𝘴”.  That’s true because it’s not, your phone is a hotbed of all kinds disease and illness.  But I don’t think one can infect themselves.  Unless they really want to.  I’m not sure.  Maybe if you smeared your phone on someones face.  Goals in life are good.  Shoulder and elbow themes.  Arched eyebrow scores.  This is very extend your arms at 90 degrees to your body and turn your palms upwards and downwards music.

Dropped Out – Blue Cola

Here we have some signatures.  Does anyone else sound like this here right now, I don’t think so.  I think it’s his synth lines.  The melodies are there.  It’s all very planet bulldozer, in a welcome way where you see it happening and it’s good.  This is hard.  As in it’s difficult.  I mean I assume it is.  To make melodies like that I mean.  I first noticed the attention to detail on a track he has on his alt Soundcloud called “I like the arp”.  I listened to that a zillion times in the bathroom.  Well, whatever he’s doing he’s doing it right as far as I can tell.  I feel you can hear him in all his work, like, him you know.  I think he dropped out of school to make music full time.  Better move than a face tat.

Lo! Peninsula – Shipwreck Caution

I’ve never been to Imphal.  I was supposed to go there in April but then epoch.  I was going to go to a town called Moreh, which borders another town called Tamu.  Tamu is in Myanmar.  Everything got fucked though as far as that plan.  For now.  It’s good though.  Both that it’s fucked and also that it’s in Myanmar.  I’ve never been there either.  I don’t know anything about this band except that there are three of them and one guy has amazing facial hair.  I can say though that I listened to this song about 20 times yesterday and at least 7 today.  Probably more.  I’ll play it right now (…) it’s three parts really isn’t it?  Theres the first part where you are on a sort of cart or vehicle or truck at around 540pm on a road with lots of dried out fields of mustard and the sky is clear and the road is a bit bumpy and there are ditches on both sides and you are facing the left but you turn your head and see the road you tread moving away from you and it’s nice then the road starts to veer downwards revealing a body of water ahead of you and the vehicle is moving a little faster and there is more dust and the shadows are changing but theres also a rattling sound coming from the right front wheel which you initially don’t notice but then it starts to fall into a kind of pattern that you think sounds like a melody (it skips twice) and you like that and then the clutch falls out and the car moves faster than you like and the front axle can’t take it so it snaps (it makes a loud noise) and the vehicle stops abruptly as it sharply veers into the ditch and you are immediately thrown out of the vehicle and all you see are clouds lined with shadows of the setting sun and edges of dying mustard juxtaposed quickly with a glint of light reflecting off the body of water but have you ever noticed that when you are in a car accident and suspended in gravity everything moves in slow motion and you don’t care about the fact that you are about to die probably because there’s really nothing you can do about it anyway and its actually kind of nice to forego agency sometimes?

Yung.Raj – Espresso 57

I don’t have real coffee at home anymore because a) I can’t find any b) I can’t be bothered to look too far c) Nescafe is pretty ok right now and I’m not really that picky about stuff like that as long as I can consume it and feel good about things.  This is kind of like 730pm before you go out on a night to your friends house and you are anticipating the night ahead and you walk out of the house and then maybe you are drinking a sneaky beer in an Uber and there are lights passing outside your window in different colours and sometimes you put your arm outside the window and make “wavy” motions, and you feel good about things.  I got bored the other and scrubbed my ten year old Bialetti Moka clean of all the black memories, which, I bought in Dehra Dun.

You And Aditya Have Liked Each Other – Fuck Tinder

This is like a pleb science show about lava in slow motion, and theres some host in an outfit and he is throwing things at the lava to watch them burn and melt (CAM B) and then you see the volcano ejaculate (also in slow motion) and theres a close up of this red molten rock being convinced skyward at sunset (it’s amazing) but then the guy trips on a rock and smashes his head on a sharp outcrop (you don’t see that) and you see the camera angle abruptly tilts 70 degrees (it no longer moves) and there is a hand trying to grab it, but then the hand quickly leaves the frame and you see steam and ultimately the camera is engulfed in a grey and red rising tide of planet, and then it’s mostly obscured by that ejecta, and it stays that way for the next four months or so (live stream).

Sleek Cobain – 𝚠𝚑𝚢 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚏𝚞𝚌𝚔 𝚒𝚜 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚖𝚊𝚍?

Yeah why are you mad man, you need to relax.  I don’t like getting mad.  I feel it’s a bad use of my energy, and I always feel tired after it.  Sometimes maybe it’s good.  To assert yourself like that.  But there must be other ways.  There are right?  Young Dolph knows.  Actually maybe not.  Maybe he is suggesting “mad” as in being “jealous”.  There’s a jealously trope in rap music.  About the success.  But I think its worn like a chain.  But yeah I don’t really get mad very often.  Maybe like 5-6 times ever.  Once was at a pool in Delhi in May where some guy wanted me to wear a cap, but he didn’t have one, and it was hot but ok I got it so I was like “fine” but then I saw a bunch of them but he didn’t want me to use them and I got mad and threw something at him.  But that was more the heat.  I felt bad about that.  Then once someone claimed their set was just 15 minutes but it was right on the 30 we agreed to and then he got mad and was like “fuck you” and walked away so I walked up to him and grabbed him (I never do this) and I yelled at him in his face about that and he looked upset.  That sucked.  I think I even pointed my finger at his face and was frowning and so on.  I hate all that shit.

Terza Rimah – Threw Your Love Through The Portal Vein

“[A]fter four years the images were recovered on Thursday the sixteenth when I was in the vertical dream state enacting a proper self-response to the second time I felt like giving up on marketing on Facebook but chose not to” once in 2009 I was with some visitors here and we were driving from Pune to a resort on the coast and they wanted to see if they could find promethezine cough syrup so we went to a bunch of chemists as we found them and bought as much as we could but I didn’t really like the taste very much and then I got really sick and I had to sleep a lot and wait while they shot a bunch of footage on a beach but in a few days I was ok and we went to Chennai then they had to leave and I went to Kodaikanal in the morning and paddled in a boat and stared at it all and wept amidst the rapture and then I went to Bangalore the same night.  This piece of music isn’t like anything else ever.
