Shot in may 2018, I would consider this series a form based exploration of that period of time. Comprising of detail-oriented images of people from the city it gives the viewer some insight into their lives and cultures, yet leaves a lot of other things open to interpretation. A surface level view of things allows me to maintain a certain sense of detachment from my subjects and surroundings, thus focusing on that which matters to me the most – the design of a photograph. The textures, the patterns, the clothes, the accessories – all of these attribute to telling us a story about who these people are and where they come from. Providing a micro as well as macro view. Disjointed in a way, yet complete.
Why is the work in a state of Pause?
I don’t think I can ever really put an end to any of my projects. The open-endedness of their nature keeps them simultaneously in motion and stationary at the same time. The more I continue to explore and grow as an artist, the further my projects and subjects evolve over time. So no project is ever really over, it’s always a continuous, spontaneous and fluid process.
